Back-office transformation & cost-reduction programme

The Project 

  

Business partnered with the MD - Group Business Services (GBS - shared service function) - Defined & established a programme to transform the businesses billing, payments & collections organisation, enabling GBS to become a Center of Excellence. 


The Opportunity / Problem 

  

The business had a mandate to deliver significant cost-reduction targets, whilst transforming the operational landscape to realise their business strategy. 

Equivalent transformation programme mobilization had been attempted several times in the past decade, but none had been successful.  


Approach

  

Partnered with the executive team to identify opportunities across people, process & technology enablers. 

  • Engaged an external agency for benchmarking insights to determine level of programme ambition. 
  • Identified opportunities for “quick wins” to realise early efficiencies & support the change management journey of the programme.
  • Mobilized the programme & programme team in 2 months, whilst executing on “quick-wins”.
  • Partnered with senior-leadership; 1) designed the organizational-design and implemented 2) Identified process efficiency opportunities and built the plan to enable execution in future years.
  • Oversaw the definition & build of a complex & high-value business case to rationalize the technology estate. Obtained investment approval from challenging c-suite stakeholders.   


Outcome

 

Defined the 5-year transformation programme to enable a 44% reduction in operational cost and 50% reduction in IT spend with Technology partners. Established the transformation programme, delivered Phase 1 on plan and left with the programme on track to deliver outcomes.
